- Focus of the light: The light must focus on certain objects if so desired. And in case of a study room, you would want the light to be able to render enough brightness on the reading table surface.
- Spread of the light: You may require the light to spread around the whole room or location of installation. As an example, if you are installing a pendant light at the stairway then you would want the light to reach all the staircases so that the illumination is enough for one to be able to distinguish the stairs. However, you may achieve this spread at the expense of focus since you really do not expect people to stress their eyes while climbing or descending along stairs.
- Freeness of movement of humans: While you may need to install the pendant light fixture at a height such that the illumination below the light is strong enough, but you may still want to ensure that the bottom of the light is above the human head in most of the cases. However if you are installing a pool table light or a dining table light right over the respective table then the light need not necessarily lie overhead.
Now that you understand the height factor involved in installing pendant light fixtures, you would want to ensure that your pendant lights get installed at the right heights. Naturally, if you install the lights too high then it will not give you too good a focus but will spread around to a reasonable radius.
The higher up the pendant light fixtures are installed, the higher is the radius of spread but the lesser is the focus below. However, as you keep reducing the height of the bottom of the fixture for getting better focus, you start coming closer to your head. And if you pull the installation too low, then you may be all set to get a few unwelcome bumps on your head.
